September 27, 2011 — The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) has reviewed and approved several fiber optic training courses from The Light Brigade as satisfying the requirements for Recertification Units (RUs). The following seven fiber optic training classes from The Light Brigade have been approved:

•Fiber Optics 1-2-3: Four days, 4 RUs
•Advanced Hands-on Modules: Five days, 5 RUs
•Fiber Characterization: PMD, CD, ORL: Three days, 3 RUs
•FTTx for Installers and Technicians: Three days, 3 RUs
•Certified Fiber to the Home Professional: Two days, 2 RUs
•Emergency Restoration: Two days, 2 RUs
•DWDM: One day, 1 RU

Additionally, The Light Brigade’s training DVDs can be combined for additional RUs, based on a cumulative of 6.5 hours of video viewing for one RU.

In addition to SCTE RUs, most of The Light Brigade’s fiber optic training classes offer continuing education credits (CEC) for Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI), as well as third party certifications from organizations such as Electronics Technicians Association (ETA), Fiber Optic Association (FOA), International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA), Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council, and Utilities Telecom Council (UTC).

“The Light Brigade has been instrumental in providing quality fiber optic training programs to the broadband industry, and fiber optic industry since 1986,” said Patrick Dobbins, Vice President and General Manager of The Light Brigade. “The recognition of The Light Brigade’s contribution to the broadband industry by SCTE, and approval of our training classes for RUs, is truly an honor and an affirmation of the quality of our training classes and training videos.”

SCTE members who maintain SCTE certifications need periodic RU credits to maintain their certifications. Now, members have an additional resource through The Light Brigade to help complete this requirement.
